2010 Semi-Final Play-Off Matches Set...
August 31, 2010
After the first round of the playoffs a rare feat occurred in the BVB post-season The top 4 ranked teams each won their series meaning that there were no major on paper upsets in the first round. The Cardinals, MudHens, Brewers and Hobos were able to get through their matches and ensure that they’ll be playing ball into September.
The 1st place Cardinals will face the Defending Champion Hobos in a series that will get started on September 7th. This marks the first time in the two teams’ histories where they will face each other in the post-season. The regular season match up saw the Cardinals go 1-0-1. Against the Giants in the quarter finals the Cardinals continued to showcase their deep and powerful line-up as they collectively put up 4 HRs and over a dozen extra base hits in the 3-game series. The Hobos will counter with their pitching staff which has proven to be nothing short of outstanding. All you have to do is see that in 3 of 5 games against a hard hitting Tiger line-up the Hobos pitchers limited the Cats to 2 runs or less. In a 5 game series it will be interesting to see how the Cards power hitting does against the Hobos power pitching. Its very tough to pick a favorite to come out of this series as the Cards enter as the hottest team in the league, but the Hobos have only lost one playoff series in the past 5 seasons. It should be a great series.
The MudHens and Brewers both swept their way to this match up. The Hens earned their spot in the semis with a win over the Marauders while the Brewers blew out a very strong Red Sox team in impressive fashion. In the regular season the teams tied in their first game and the Brewers won the 2nd game late in the season. This series will mark the 2nd time in as many years that the two clubs have faced each other in the semi-finals. In last seasons series the Brewers won 3 games to 2 to edge the Hens and head to the finals. There is not a lot to choose from between these two teams. The hitting and pitching are outstanding on both squads. When that’s the case it is often times the team that plays a cleaner, more error free brand of ball that will come out on top. Expect to see some close, entertaining and well played games for as long as the series ends up going. Again its tough to pick a favorite and no result coming out of this series would be a surprise.

2010 Play-Offs Preview...
August 17, 2010
The 2010 BVB season is now heading into the playoffs with each team’s quest being the Gold Cup. The best of 5 match-ups begin this weekend with the winner’s of each series moving on to play in September while the loser’s season will be done.
The 1 vs 8 seed will pit the League Champion Cardinals against the Giants. The Cardinals won both games the teams played this year by scores of 9-0 and 13-1. The Cardinals have been on an impressive roll having lost just once since the end of May. They lead the league in Homeruns and had the most runs scored and fewest runs allowed over the course of the season. The Giants on the other hand have been streaky having come out of the gate with an impressive start and then slumping late before putting together a few wins to close out the year. They have depth at the pitching position and good team speed which they will need to capitalize on if they hope to pull the upset.
The 2 vs 7 seed match up will see the MudHens face the Marauders. The Hens swept the season series and ride the strength of one of the deepest batting lineups in the league and an extremely effective pitching roster. They hold wins over all of the Top 5 seeds this year including a sweep of the 1st place Cardinals. The Marauders are the BVB’s ‘savvy veteran’ squad and have earned wins over most teams in the league this year as well. Their hitting is their strength, and with a tough opponent like the Hens they will need their pitchers to have good command of their pitches and flawless team defense if they hope to move on. This series is a rematch from the former Legends Cup championship from 3 years ago that the Hens came out on top on.
The 3 vs 6 seed match up will see the sophomore Brewers play against one of the most proven teams in recent years in the Red Sox. The Brewers started fairly slowly by their standards this year but closed out the regular season on a hot streak. They have both speed and power in their line-up and have pitchers than can shut down any opposition in the league when they’re on. The Red Sox are the only team in the league in the past 5 years not named ‘Hobo’s’ to win the Playoff Championship. Similar to the Brewers the Sox didn’t start out that well in the regular season, but after some key players returned from injury they found their footing and closed the season well. The Sox always play their best ball against the best teams so the Brewers can count on a war once the first pitch gets thrown on Friday. This should be a great series.
The Hobo’s and Tigers will battle it out in the 4 vs 5 match up. These teams are no strangers to one another having engaged in battles several times in the past 10 years. In recent years the Hobo’s have completely dominated, but that could be said about virtually any playoff opponent they’ve had recently. Aside from their talent on both sides of the ledger they have the intangible that every team wishes they had – the proven ability to win the big games. The Tigers again get first crack at knocking off the defending Champions. Make no mistake; this is a team that is not only capable of doing that in this series but also carrying that all the way through. They closed the year in impressive fashion having beaten many of the top teams in the league. Their final month moved them several spots up in the standings and they are no doubt anxious to get that ‘Hobo’ monkey off their backs. This should be a well played and heated series.
